This extraordinary ethnic necklace is a masterpiece of traditional craftsmanship, made entirely by hand with natural materials and a technique rooted in ancient cultural traditions.
Description
The necklace stands out for its imposing pectoral structure, with hundreds of tiny turquoise beads forming a long central fringe, embellished with small white shells sewn at the ends. The upper section is composed of an intricate composition of red beads, turquoise stones, and a central element decorated in wrought metal. The vibrant colors—turquoise, coral red, and green—create a strong visual impact, recalling the typical motifs of the nomadic and tribal cultures of East Africa and Central Asia.
History and Technique
This necklace is made using the traditional hand-beading technique, a centuries-old practice used by many peoples to express identity, social status, group membership, or important life events (such as marriage or rites of passage). Gemstones and shells were symbols of wealth and spiritual protection.
Cowrie shells, found at the bottom, were used in many African and Asian cultures not only as ornaments but also as currency or protective amulets. The central circular motif recalls solar or cosmic symbols, often linked to the concept of cyclicity and harmony.
The inspiration for this piece can be traced back to the tribal jewelry of Kenya, Mali, or Tibet, all places where craftsmanship holds strong symbolic and spiritual value. Each piece is unique and carries the soul of the people who created it.
